010. Practice What You Preach

Howdy folks! Happy Tuesday! Today’s Just the TIP Tuesday is “Practice What You Preach.”

With the world we live in and the amount of influence through social media, I could possibly change this tip to “Practice What You Post” – Many people follow our lives and hold us to a certain standard. We have to be mindful of what we post and make sure we live up to the advice we give. We can't become a walking contradiction.

I understand, more times than not, it’s easier to tell others what they should do, instead of doing it ourselves. People are watching what we do more than they listen to what we say. We usually learn much more by watching and paying attention to the examples of others. Therefore, we need to lead by example. Walk the talk. Inspire, challenge, and encourage people to be their best, by doing YOUR best!

Your beliefs don’t make you a better person, your behavior does. If you ask your clients to make healthy food choices while traveling, you should follow suit. We don’t have the right to hold somebody accountable for standards we refuse to apply to ourselves.

For example, if I give advice on morning practices to help enhance your life, but don’t practice those myself, it would be tough for me to speak authentically on the subject. People reading or watching could quickly lose respect for me and stop following.

I also talk about keeping up with a regular workout routine while making time to see family and friends, especially on vacation or during the holidays. To make it all happen, you may need to do some research before you leave and find out the schedule of classes at locals gyms or yoga studios.  This way you can stay healthy and happy and be a positive light for those around you.  To take it a step further, you can invite friends and family to join you so you can spend time with them as you get in your workout.

In business, as in life, it’s important to practice what you preach. Lately, some companies have been reaching out to me to try their product/service and then help promote their brand. I will never promote a product or service I don’t truly believe in, so besides actually trying the product, I like to do a little background research and make sure the company believes in what they’re selling.

In closing, we are a walking billboard and if we're selling something we need to use the product. When we practice what we preach, people are more likely to pay attention. I'm a firm believer, the best way to succeed in life is to act on the advice we give to others.

Thanks again for spending a few minutes of your Tuesday with me! Catch ya next week!!

With gratitude,
