013. Be Consistent
Happy Tuesday y’all! Today’s TIP is BE CONSISTENT! The sun consistently rises everyday. We need to be more like the sun.
We’ve all heard the saying, “consistency is key” and in my mind it truly is the key to success. It is the key that unlocks all the doors!
With the New Year in full effect and all of our intention and resolution setting, I believe it will be consistency that will determine how many of those intentions and resolutions are fulfilled.
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit.” Aristotle nailed it! Stay consistent and we will create healthy habits!! The key to my fitness success is consistency. I have a routine and healthy habits I have created and practice daily to keep myself in optimal shape. These are my “nonnegotiables" if you will.
Let’s take it one step at a time. Let’s KISS…keep it simple silly! (I got that one from my gramps)
#1 Create a PLAN – know what you want your end goal to be and then WRITE it down and tell people about it. The more people that know what you are trying to accomplish, the more accountable you will be! You will need to write down daily, weekly, monthly and yearly goals.
For example, my daily goals include eating healthy, working out, and reading. To stay consistent, I need to be prepared. For example, I prepare my meals for the week ahead of time, I write down my workouts for the week and sign up for classes to keep myself accountable to certain times that I am going to workout, and I keep the current book I’m reading on my nightstand so I see it everyday as a reminder to get my 10 pages read.
Furthermore, I have written down my yearly goals for 2017 and I am going to share them with you to hold myself more accountable to making them all happen! So when you see me, please ask how I am doing with my 2017 intentions!!
1. Read at least 1 new book each month
2. Post one new blog / vlog each week
3. Obtain Real Estate License & join a brokerage
4. Publish first eBook (fitness)
5. Volunteer more (charity events & runs)
6. Attend or watch church online every Sunday
7. Go on a mission trip
8. Travel (Machu Picchu – hike)
9. Eliminate clutter (donate)
10. Pray, Meditate, stretch everyday
It is imperative you have a plan so you know where to direct your actions, thoughts, effort, and time. It must be a plan that you want. It must be in line with your values and your hearts desire. The more emotionally invested you are in your plan, the more you will remain committed, the higher your chances are for success.
#2 Start with ONE THING - Choose ONE THING and do that ONE THING consistently, everyday over and over and you will see results. For example, I would choose working out. I have to do it day in and day out if I want to get the results I am looking for. There are plenty of days that I don’t feel like working out. I am tired, sad, busy, stressed, unmotivated, on vacation, sore…the list could go on and on but I do it any way. I stay consistent because I have goals and I know that if I want to reach them, I need to stay committed. So, do the workout, eat the healthier option, or make the time. Remind yourself how you will feel after your workout. It will be worth it. Just DO it!
Another perfect example of showing how consistency gets you results, my friend Nell is a photographer and told me tonight at the gym that her New Year intention was to shoot everyday. Shoot meaning take pictures. She has stayed consistent with her goal and shot everyday and after just 10 days she said she could already tell she is getting better. How awesome is that?!
We must always be consistent if we want to see results in any area of our life. Consistent action will create consistent results! At times, I have thought that consistency means everything has to be perfect, but now I realize it is simply refusing to give up on my goals. Things don’t have to be perfect; I just can’t give up!
In closing, BE THE MOST CONSISTENT PERSON YOU KNOW! Stay focused on your goals, stay present in the moment, don’t let temporary distractions derail you from your plan! Start with ONE THING and once you’ve mastered that new healthy habit, add another ONE! You can do this! I believe in YOU!
