018. Run Your Own Race

Happy Tuesday friends!! Today’s TIP is “Run Your Own Race”

Run your own race. Stay in your own lane. Stop comparing yourself to others and their accomplishments. There is only one YOU. Do you! Be you! Everyone else is taken!

I know I talked last week about social media and media in general causing us to become disconnected with ourselves and those around us. Social media also makes it very easy to scroll through and compare ourselves to everyone else. What kind of relationships others “appear” to be in. What kind of accomplishments others have made, or are making. What kind of shape others are in. How much money others “appear” to have.

It is a rabbit hole we don’t need to go down because we were MADE TO BE unique. We are different than every other human on this planet. How incredible is that…out of 7 billion people there is only ONE of us and there will never be another like us! Pretty flippin cool if you ask me!

Not to mention the fact that everything we see on social media and television isn’t always true. It is like false advertising and we are comparing ourselves to things that aren’t even real. Talk about setting ourselves up for failure.

We have all done it. I am very guilty of this. Especially when it comes to working out and what kind of shape I think I should be in. It is not bad to have goals, but the second I start scrolling and see someone with a rockin bod and I say, "Wish I looked like that” (and I mean I really wish I looked exactly like that person), then comparison strikes and I feel defeated.

I heard this amazing quote during a service I recently watched, “Stop complaining about the pieces we didn't get and be grateful that you are a masterpiece.” Whoa...truth bomb! Let that sink in! You are a masterpiece!

If you were meant to be taller, you would have been taller. If you were meant to be faster, you would have been faster. If you were meant to have an amazing voice, you would have an amazing voice. You get the point. We are who we are and we need to start appreciating all that we are!

There is a call on your life. A purpose. We have everything we need within us.  You don't need to look outside yourself.

We have our own lane. Stay in your own lane. Look forward. Look onward.

I know from experience this can be very difficult. It is a daily practice, but it is worth it!

Comparison causes us to shift our attention and focus, it inevitably causes a crash when we are looking side to side at other people's lanes, instead of staying focusing on our own lane.

For example, when we are stuck in traffic and the lanes beside us seem to be moving faster, we quickly flip on the blinker (or don’t even use the blinker) and move over as fast as possible, almost causing a wreck and then bam, that lane stops and the cars that were behind us are now passing us. We start wishing we had stayed in our own lane. Don't wreck your life trying to get in someone else's lane.

Let’s start making it a daily practice to become unlike everyone else.

Aim in the direction of your destiny.

Take aim. Take action. Make your dreams come true by being YOU!

Love you all!

With gratitude,
